People of Karcanon 8 - Reijinara n'Varthar [Aug. 21st, 2006|02:24 pm]

Originally uploaded by MyraWorld.
Rejinara n'Varthar, former Deye (queen) of Borgon Dyl. Reijinara n'Varthar was a fully noble Deye of Borgon Dyl on Karcanon, of the noble house of n'Varthar, who are pure-blooded Borgon Dun.

The Borgon Dun, the "Children of Borgon", are the ruling majority in Borgon Dyl, the "Land of Borgon" - they claim to be descended from the Warbringer, the Shaker of Earth, the God of Earthquakes and Earthly Strength, Borgon, himself, who as their founding legend has it, had children with the mortal girl.

Pure-blooded Borgon Dun, like Reijinara, can be recognized by not only their jet-black skin, but also by the purple colour of their iris.

Biographically Reijinara was the successor of her aunt, Deye Lyralenda IV. n'Varthar, who had made the country great and expanded it widely beyond the borders which had been home to free Borgon Dun only, with other peoples only living their as slaves in some households. Reijinara n'Varthar was the one to make the country a three-part realm, with the areas of Macheiran-Dyl on the Wide Sea coast (formerly largely belonging to Ataris and still claimed by that nation), where racially mixed brown people are the majority, Torgan-Dyl, the heart of the Borgon Dun country, and Bakan-Dyl which stretches from the Inner Sea of Karcanon along the rivers, formerly belonging to the Empire of Bakanasan.

She was captured by pirates and deemed dead, succeeded by her cousin Shayol n'Varthar as Deye, liberated herself and returned, given the throne again by Shayol, who instead went with the would-be new Emporer Bofri and her allies of the "League of Light" to free the island of Silur, closing the gate to the Underworld there and thus eliminating a threat to the whole world. When Shayol returned from Silur however, Reijinara, who's politics had angered many nobles of the country, had been declared dead again, dead from poison this time, so Shayol returned as and succeeded her as Deye again.

The two kids Reijinara had with her Bakan-Dyl white husband, Keladhan of Lydon, who were expected to follow her on the throne some time later, were adopted by Shayol n'Varthar to make sure one of the kids legally hers would follow her on the throne.

TANI

The Idenwild

We Idenwild are humans and originate from the homeland Idenwild in the Shadow Zone. As at Allumedddon the Shadow Zone broke and the homelands fell the Gods Anur and Pura were our rescuers. He spoke words of power and led many of us on our animals in the tiger jump reliably to soil. Others stayed and what them became we do not know.

The Tigers

When the Shadow Zone broke the tigers coming as messengers of Pura and broke into our homeland. They are intelligent animals, large enough to ride them and of a fighting spirit, in order to go with them into a war. Their skin patterns are stripes and one color is always gold. Second colour however can be ruby red, a radiating green, an azure blue or the shining purple of the amethystes.

Castle Dam

With our tigers we landed we in a a wayless sand desert. We decided to flee the burning sunlight, the thirst and the hunger to the far mountains, which we could see far at the Phialae horizon. We rode an painful week by the desert. At the foot of the mountains we discovered a broad valley that we found blocked by a transverse wall. A wall, one hundred steps pendicularly rising, an artful bow striking from mountain to mountain. A miracle, built from elven to primeval times. Riding on the tigers we could climb the mountain flank. Beyond the wall we reached a saving lake, which was accumulated by the wall. On the wall we established Castle Dam.

The warriors of Anur and Pura

We thanked our Gods for our rescue and dedicated to them our castle and our people. We fought in the Shadow Zone and we decided for the fight as our service to Anur and Pura. As weapons we selected intelligence and fate before majority and strength. Many of us protracted into the desert and achieved large acts in the dark times, which followed Allumeddon. Many did not turn home and our number shrank. Finally just nine warriors lived in Castle Dam. We decided to abandon the castle to find humans to rise the number of the Idenwild.

Tani

The Khansim, the storm of the desert Zun howled around the carawanseraiSela for three days. The wooden window shops were additionally sealed with cloths. Nevertheless the dust crept by the tiny cracks and covered gradually everything with a fine, grey layer, stuck the eyes of the travelers together, crept them in nose and mouth and made the breathing an agony. They deemed themselves lucky nevertheless. In the free desert humans die within hours. It is said not in vain that the Khansim tears human and animal the meat from the bones.

Something scratchedat the door, almost over-sounded from howling of the storm. Fearfully the travelers looked themselves on. Spirits and daemons, says one rage in the Khansim. Then outside something struck against the door. It sprung off a gap, made the storm howl louder and let in a dust cloud. Then the door was completely pushed open. A cat, large as a horse squeezed itself into the chamber. In the muzzle the body of a human. The cat wore stripes like a tiger, but in blue and gold. With remainders of a saddle and hung with torn saddle bags it was obviously a tame animal, despite of a muzzle ofsharp tooth, despite of the sharp claws. The skin coverd with dust, the body many times wounded. It put the human on the soil carefully. A woman, done with a torn cloth, more dead than alive. One closed the door, one got water for human and cat, two put the woman on a table and cared for her wounds. Two deep cuts on the back, symmetrically, easily swung from the shoulders to the hip.

The storm ended. The cat recovered and soon the woman, too. Her name is Tani. She is small, only five foot large, darkly burned by the Zun. Her hair and eyes are black, her movements speedy and skillfully like a dancer or a warrior. Her voice is young, but her face curved like an old woman. She rides the cat like a horse and hires herself for some moons as a caravan guide. From her wages she buys two swords. As her caravan is attacked by robbers she kills two of them, the cat kills two more. In the Khansim she loses only one camel and no rider.

She never talks about her previous life.

Phyter - Character by WGW - Drawing by Christel Scheja
phyter, originally uploaded by MyraWorld.

Phyter - A young aspiring hero without much of his own choice - and one of the main characters in my [info]nanowrimo novel on Karcanon. Once he was sent to the MSM, the Myra School of Magic in Esoteria, to learn how to be a chronicler, but because of his significant talent with true dreaming and other things, he was educated to be a wizard and a seer. For quite some time he had no idea of what his education consisted or what it would be good for. He was asked to read what seemed to be randomly chosen texts, to learn some of them by heart. This included fragments of Kataph the Wise as well as astrology from the School of Tra-Zun, the Rules of the Pfader as well as old texts from the School of Yrghun or from the Seers of Tanur.
In practical magic he liked alteration, charming, herbalism with the GK-master and the knowledge of beings with Gigi Nur. He had a hard time managing illusions, but teachers were soft on him as he was assumed to be a protegé of one of the Great Masters. In autumn 423 nP Phyter is "Student- and Job-Counsellor" of the MSM for newly arrived students and first-time exam candidates, that is students who do their first (and, for most of them, only) exam at the MSM.

Introducing some of the people on Karcanon I will begin with an adventurer who seems to be a minor character at first glance. The career of this MSM Esoteria-trained magic user starts as an aide of fugitive Baron Rand Runaway from Dunster in Athanesia, who had to flee from Dunster after the military coup d'etat there by Duke Owen, who replaced the previous Duke (and later ambassador of Athanesia to the Umntor region) Gordon of Dunster.
In the service of Baron Rand, Shiona was involved in some more or less mysterious dealings which have to do with finding all the five symbols "the prophecy of the king" speaks of, or stealing them if finding isn't enough. So she is involved in the plot to reinstate the 'True Kingdom' to Athanesia, where councils and generals have ruled for the last 20 years.
The only close friend she is known to have is, besides the Baron possibly, another wizard-turned-thief called Bas by friends, or Master Ikum for his pupils when he now teaches at the MSM outlet in Carthanc, Athanesia's capitol.
It is rumoured that Shiona n'Harad had something to do with the coup in the MSM Esoteria in and after 415 nP, but this has yet to be proven, as well as her involvement with the attacks on the dwarves of Rockander who tried to find a tunnel to the Desert of Swift Death. So if everything rumoured about her is true, Shiona n'Harad might be important after all.

The Imperial Baptism at Chalkis [Feb. 4th, 2006|05:58 am]

The Imperial Baptism at Chalkis

This is a large event in the Year of the Eagle on Myra, which enabled us to intertwine many strands of fate, many storylines, by gathering many important characters in one place, the Imperial City of Chalkis, on the Green Sea of Karcanon. (Click here for a map of the Green Sea -DE-) - (Click here for a map of Karcanon, the Green Sea is in the upper middle area -EN-)

The event taking place in the Imperial City of Chalkis is not a baptism of the Emporer Bofri of Karcanon himself, but rather his son and only (known legitimate) child, which is also the first child any woman gave him since he became the Emporer. The son with (of?) the wife which Godfather Chnum, the head of the Pantheon of deities and demigods, had chosen for the Emporer and sent to him as a gift, the so called Empress Kafrya of Erendyra. Her arrival had been less than welcome, in a way, because the Emporer already had a woman at his side, his Mistress and Free Consort, the Keeper of Am'y Syrren, the so called 'Queen of the Amazons', Jelantha ni Kjerta. But Bofri bade Kafrya welcome, and she got pregnant and got a child, which until now has been officially nameless, because in the five years since he didn't receive his official ceremony of name-giving, which now was about to happen.

Two unlikely godmothers had been chosen by Emporer Bofri for his son: the 'amazon-queen' Jelantha from the Green Highlands, his previous consort of choice, on the one hand - and on the other hand, picked and approved by Jelantha, the fairy Baleine, a fair Faey. It has been many generations since anyone, anywhere, had had a fairy godmother.

For people on the outside, the few that concerned themselves with such details, it didn't seem as if the mother of the boy, the Empress Kafrya from Erendyra, did have much of a say in this. She had been chosen and sent by the God Chnum, but Emporer Bofri, whose rise from a simple count, then duke, in a province of Karalo-Floran, largely relied on the support of Chnumite groups, was ancious not to give too much control away to the clergy of Chnum. Empress Kafrya, as some of you might not know, was herself a High Priestess of Chnum, with the religious name of Sister Almondblossom, before she suddenly appeared in the High Temple of Chalkis, out of nowhere, or rather out of the Empire of Tektoloi on the small but far island-continent of Erendyra. She was sent, as rumour has it, to keep the Emporer Bofri closer to the Church of Chnum, as he had shown tendency to aknowledge all non-evil deities and demigods and, Chnum beware, instead of building more temples for Chnum alone, was planning to build temples of "the Pantheon", to house all non-evil religions. An idea, so it is told, given to him by a priest named Laurentius, formerly a strict follower of Chnum himself.

The baptism, to be held with the clergy of Chnum as ministers but with godmothers who had other religious ideas to give the name, drew high attention among the High Priests in the large temples all around Karcanon, and many High Priests of Chnum hurried to be in Chalkis just in time to give their blessing to the imperial kid as well, to make Chnums influence the strongest on this one. Priests and followers of other religions, especially of Dondra, the Thunderer, the Eagle-God of wind and storm, strong not only among the former pirates of the Green Sea, also came so that their religions and ideals would not be overlooked in this event. People from strange races came, in the hope to gain 'Imperial Protection' for their kin in exchange for their blessing and their gifts...
Kings and princes also came, for example King Ragall from the island-kingdom of Silur, with his wife Martyna of Belgaran, to pay their respect to the kid and thus show their respect for the Emporer. Travellers came from afar, not all of them because of the kid, some just to meet other important people present at the event, and to play the never-ending game of politics... Some attended in the hope to see the Imperial Archmage, who himself is King of the Valley-Elves of Taron don Umn, the famous magician Analon Tuatha Annwn, called Katuum, or the Archmage of Karalo-Floran, Fyseo, Duke of Domtrayi, and to learn some magic from them. Not all who ventured to ask were up to the challenge, however. Of all those bestowed with more magical energy than they could previously hold, only Aori, a Kaezin, a cat-woman and follower of the tiger goddess Pura, stood to boast about it later.

Plentiful were the gifts bestowed on the child, and manyfold the blessings. Countless the options for interesting people to meet interesting people in the weeks and months preceeding and following the event. (Know that non-magical travel on Myra takes many months, and if you reach a destination, you usually do not hurry back immediately) Which is your chance to fit into the story:

Is there a character of yours which might have tried to attend and come to Chalkis in this time? Please describe in comments here and/or mail to me...

There is just one Syrri (Amazon) from the Green Highlands of Am'y Syrren who ever saw them through the mists of the Labyrinth of Legends, and this one, Tarra ni Lorna, will not tell anything about them...

Wanderers beware - and remember there is only one safe road through the Forest of Mannar, and that's the one which is paved with cobbled stones, visible on the maps and leading from Karalo-Floran to Gorgonya...

Inside it, if you could enter, you would find the worldly home of the young god Seeker, one of the lesser deities and demigods who is forced to live on the world instead of in the heavens with the others.

The wizard Clarion came here from Gortania in Zertanien (see map) where he had defended the heart of the town against the desert nomads of Shall'udn'haba under the white rider, Barak yl Yassara. Clarion was sent to the holy place of Seeker at Helion on Rillanon in the Green Sea (see map) to become Clarion of Helion and later on the wise Guardian of first Ysatinga and later Erendyra, which is very close to this desert, bringing his life to full circle.
